Harare, (New Ziana)Senior prosecutors from all the provinces on Wednesday vowed to play their part in the fight against corruption as they signed integrity pledges in Harare.

The signing of the integrity pledges that are social contracts through which individuals affirm their commitment to fight corruption, was conducted in collaboration with the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC).

Speaking at the signing ceremony, prosecutor general Loyce Matanda-Moyo implored the prosecutors to ethically and lawfully execute their duties and play a leading role in shunning corruption at their work stations.

“This event is not merely symbolic as it underscores our unwavering, non-negotiable commitment to upholding the highest standards of integrity in public service. It is a powerful, collective declaration of our resolve to relentlessly combat corruption and ensure that justice does not just prevail, but is seen to prevail, fairly and decisively.

“The fight against corruption is not just a shared responsibility, it is the defining battle for the soul of our nation, and it is a battle we, as custodians of justice, must unequivocally win for the betterment of every Zimbabwean citizen. As an institution, the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) stands as the vanguard of ensuring justice.

“We are entrusted with a sacred, solemn duty to prosecute corruption cases and guard against corruption with unwavering fairness, unyielding diligence and absolute impartiality, without fear or favour, regardless of who stands accused. This weighty mandate includes watching ourselves and committing ourselves to a higher standard,” she said.

Matanda-Moyo reminded the prosecutors that the integrity pledges reinforced and fortified their ethical framework and serve as a constant, potent reminder of the principles that must guide their every action, decision, and prosecution.

“It is a promise that we, as the nation’s chief public prosecutors and public servants of the highest caliber, will act with unwavering honesty, profound transparency and unshakeable accountability,” she said, urging the prosecutors to collectively recommit themselves to fostering and entrenching a profound culture of integrity within the NPAZ.

Speaking at the same event, ZACC commissioner Chido Madiwa said corruption is not just a governance failure, but an assault on human dignity.

She said, among other ills, corruption within the Government undermines public trust in public institutions, hampers developments, weakens the law, and facilitates illegal activities such as money laundering and drug trafficking.
