Harare, (New Ziana) – Seven suspected armed robbers have been arrested in connection with a spate of robberies in Nyabira, with police recovering two firearms, ammunition and other items believed to have been used in the crimes.
In a statement, police national spokesperson, Paul Nyathi confirmed the arrest of the seven suspects.
“The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms the arrest of seven suspects, Malvin Mohammed Maisiri (32), Leonard Mahwindo (26), Tension Mahwindo (26), Heavens Chimupenga (17), Moffat Mango (50), Kudakwashe Munemo (29) and Goodwill Muchimba (39), in connection with a series of armed robbery cases which occurred in Nyabira.
The arrest follows an armed robbery incident which occurred on 05th May 2026 at around 0300 hours, at a house in Nyabira where the suspects allegedly demand(ed) cash and valuables before ransacking the house,” said Nyathi.
The arrests, he said, followed an armed robbery incident that occurred on May 5, 2026 at around 3am at a house in Nyabira, where the suspects allegedly stormed the residence demanding cash and valuables before ransacking the property.
He said the complainant alerted neighbours after the robbery, prompting residents to quickly mobilise and proceed to the scene where they found the suspects still inside the house.
Upon noticing the approaching residents, the suspects attempted to flee, but members of the public pursued and apprehended one of the suspects, identified as Mohammed Hamandishe, said Nyathi.
A Retay pistol, nine live rounds of ammunition, four blank rounds and two pistol magazines were recovered from the suspect.
Police investigations led to the arrest of the other suspects in Nyabira and Chitungwiza after Hamandishe implicated his accomplices.
The police also recovered a Tokarev pistol, a magazine with one live round of ammunition, a bolt cutter and a bicycle, among other items believed to have been used in the robberies.
According to Nyathi, the suspects are also assisting investigators in clearing three other armed robbery cases that occurred in Nyabira on April 26, 2026, during which cash and household goods were stolen.
He commended the Nyabira community for what it described as a swift and courageous response that led to the breakthrough in the case.
Police are, however, still hunting for two outstanding suspects identified only as “Good” and “Nyasha”.
Anyone with information that may lead to their arrest has been urged to contact their nearest police station or the National Complaints Desk on (0242) 703631 or WhatsApp number 0712 800197.
