Seven bodies have been retrieved from Lake Kariba after a DDF boat named Mbuya Nehanda capsized on Tuesday while en route to Chabala fishing camp.

Rescue teams are still on the lake conducting search and recovery operations to locate more victims.

It is understood the boat was carrying 95 people when it went down. Chabala is a fishing camp along the shoreline of Lake Kariba.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirmed that the DDF vessel had 90 passengers and five crew members on board. The cause of the capsizing has not yet been established.

“Rescue efforts are currently underway with more details on the situation to be released in due course,” the ZRP said.

Authorities have urged the public to remain patient as operations continue.
