Silobela duo murdered in fight over girlfriend

Silobela (New Ziana) – Two men were allegedly murdered in cold blood, while another is battling for his life at Kwekwe District Hospital after they were stabbed during a fight over a girlfriend at Crossroads Business Centre in Silobela.

The incident happened when the murdered duo who have been identified as Blessed Sibanda (25) and Hillary Maphosa (21) were drinking beer with their alleged murderers in the early hours of Saturday.

Midlands provincial police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko said that the alleged; perpetrators – Talcot Mupasi (25) and his brother Agape Munashe Mupasi (21), have since been arrested.

“The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms investigating the murder of two men who were stabbed to death with a knife at Crossroads Business Centre, Silobela on 29 January 2022 at about 0030 hours,” he sad.

Insp. Mahoko said the four were drinking beer when a misunderstanding arose between Sibanda and Talcott over a girlfriend.

“The argument degenerated into a fist fight. Agape Munashe Mupasi intervened and started beating Sibanda.

“Talcott produced a knife and stabbed Sibanda at the back and he fell down. Maphosa intervened trying to stop the melee but was also stabbed,” he said.

The police spokesperson said one Nqaba Ndlovu (26), who was there tried as well to stop the fight but was stabbed on the chest by Talcott. 

The two Mupasi brothers fled leaving the three lying in pools of blood.

“The three injured men were rushed to Kwekwe District Hospital where Sibanda and Maphosa were pronounced dead.

“Ndlovu is admitted at Kwekwe District Hospital and is receiving treatment. The two suspects  were arrested and are in police custody,” Insp. Mahoko said.

He appealed to the public to settle disputes through dialogue.

The murder case comes barely a week after the Officer Commanding Police Midlands province Commissioner Winston Muzah was in the area where he engaged chiefs and their subjects on the need to shun criminal activities, especially violent crimes.

The police chief was told of the high rate of violence in the area perpetrated mostly by machete gangs.
