Harare (New Ziana)- All six people onboard died on Friday when a Cessna 206 plane owned by diamond miner Rio Zim went down in the Zvamahande area near Mashava, in Masvingo province, the police said on Friday.
The plane, which took off from Harare heading for Murowa Diamonds Mine in Zvishavane, the Midlands province, broke into pieces on impact.
The cause of the crash, which happened at around 7 AM is still being investigated.
National police spokesman Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said the deceased passengers were two locals and four foreigners.
“The Zimbabwe Republic Police reports a plane crash which occurred on the 29 September 2023 between 0730 hours and 0800 hours where six people are confirmed dead.
“The Murowa Diamond Company (RioZim) owned white and red Zcam aircraft had left Harare for the mine at 0600 hours and crashed about six kilometres from Mashava. The victims are two Zimbabweans and four foreign nationals. More information will be released in due course,” he said in a statement.
