BEITBRIDGE — Six suspects have appeared at the Beitbridge Magistrates’ Court, facing allegations of stealing 147 bottles of Broncleer cough syrup valued at ZiG18,200.
The accused, Linnet Chimhete (32), Simbarashe Chekure (51), Paul Ngirishi (40), Thomas Musvaire (42), Eunice Langalanga (43), and Tinotenda Maphosa (38), appeared before Beitbridge Magistrate Takudzwa Gwazemba.
The case has been remanded in custody, pending a bail hearing at the Beitbridge Magistrates’ Court.
The State alleges that on September 16, Chimhete, a ZIMRA employee stationed at the Freight Terminal Warehouse, conspired with Chekure to remove the medication from the warehouse.
The prosecution further alleges that Maphosa and Musvaire, both casual workers at ZIMRA, loaded the bottles into satchels and placed them in Chimhete’s vehicle.
Police later intercepted the vehicle near the Roman Catholic Church in Dulibadzimu, following a tip-off, and recovered a 50kg sack containing the 147 bottles of Broncleer.
The medication and vehicle were seized as exhibits, and the stolen goods were recovered.
The accused are represented by lawyer Muchihwande Sithole of Sithole Law Office, while Mercy Nyathi is prosecuting.
