STANBIC Bank Zimbabwe officially opened its Masvingo Branch on Wednesday, marking an important chapter in its continued efforts to make exceptional financial services more accessible to the people, enterprises and communities of Masvingo and its environs.
The Masvingo Branch, which began operations on December 1, 2025, brings Stanbic Bank’s national branch network to 20, collectively served by 55 ATMs.
The event was attended by government representatives, business leaders, valued clients, Stanbic Bank Board Member Valentine Mushayakarara, Chief Executive Solomon Nyanhongo, and members of the executive committee (EXCO).
Stanbic Bank’s Head of Personal and Private Banking, Nelson Muhau, stated that expanding into Masvingo enables the institution to contribute more meaningfully to the growth of the local business community.
“It also demonstrates Stanbic Bank’s dedication to broadening financial access, enabling enterprise development and offering convenient, forward-looking banking solutions,” he said.
The opening of the Masvingo Branch closely follows the launch of the Chiredzi Branch earlier this month.
Muhau noted that as a subsidiary of Standard Bank Group, Stanbic Bank values Masvingo’s strategic contribution to Zimbabwe’s commercial and industrial sectors. Establishing a presence in the region brings the bank closer to the individuals and businesses shaping Masvingo’s economic future, allowing it to serve them with greater responsiveness and insight.
“This opening signifies our renewed commitment to building lasting relationships, understanding our clients’ aspirations, and providing financial solutions that help them thrive. At Stanbic Bank, our purpose is: ‘Zimbabwe is our home, we drive her growth.’ This guides us to invest in the communities we serve, support sustainable enterprise, and contribute to the country’s long-term prosperity,” said Muhau.
In a speech read on his behalf, the Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution for Masvingo, Ezra Chadzamira, said the opening of the Masvingo Branch is a significant vote of confidence in the province’s future and in the potential of its people, businesses, and institutions.
“On behalf of the Government of Zimbabwe and the people of Masvingo Province, I congratulate Stanbic Bank Zimbabwe on this important investment. The establishment of this modern banking facility demonstrates confidence in our province’s economic prospects and reinforces the critical role that financial institutions play in driving economic growth, investment and development,” he said.
He noted that for centuries, Great Zimbabwe has been a centre of commerce, connecting local traders to regional and international markets. This event, he added, is a reminder that enterprise, entrepreneurship, and trade have long been part of the province’s heritage.
Minister Chadzamira said Masvingo continues to grow as a key economic centre, having achieved city status in 2002—a milestone in its ongoing development.
Since then, Masvingo has expanded as an administrative, commercial, and tourism hub, serving both the province and the broader southern region of Zimbabwe.
He stated that with a population exceeding 1.6 million, Masvingo offers significant opportunities for economic growth and financial inclusion, supported by agriculture, mining, tourism, manufacturing, commerce, and a growing small-to-medium enterprise sector.
“I encourage the business community of Masvingo to fully leverage the opportunities this investment presents,” he said.
The minister said strong partnerships between financial institutions and businesses are vital for driving production, boosting exports, creating jobs, and supporting entrepreneurship.
