Students recover from Covid-19 – Govt

Share

Harare, (New Ziana) – Over 300 students who were infected by the coronavirus since schools opened nearly two months ago have fully recovered, the government said on Tuesday.

The infections at schools in Harare, Manicaland and Matabeleland provinces sent shockwaves amid fears of a third wave of the virus.

Schools had re-opened among misgivings by some stakeholders that it was too early given high infection cases, but government insisted measures had been put in place to contain them.

“In the primary and secondary sector, the nation is informed that all Covid-19 positive cases reported at Prince Edward, Sacred Heart and Bonda Mission schools have fully recovered,” Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister, Monica Mutsvangwa told a post-Cabinet press briefing.

“Most of the cases recorded at schools in Bulawayo Province since the beginning of the current school term have also recovered, with very few remaining active cases.”

She said government was rolling out modules for training on how to handle Covid-19 at learning institutions.

As at 10 May, 2021, Zimbabwe’s cumulative Covid-19 cases stood at 38 433, with 36 208 recoveries and 1 576 deaths.

The recovery rate stood at 94.2 percent.

Government launched a vaccination programme mid-February that has seen over 529 000 being vaccinated so far.
