Bulawayo, (New Ziana) – A suspected computer thief has been assaulted to death with knobkerries and other weapons by an angry mob in Bulawayo’s Mahatshula North suburb, police have said.
Bulawayo province police spokesperson, Nomalanga Msebele identified the deceased as Lucky Ncube, 23 of Nyamandlovu Fountain Village 1.
“Circumstances are that, at around 0200 hours, the deceased was arrested after being found in possession of a CPU in Mahatshula North by residents. The residents blew a whistle alerting other members of the community who gathered and started assaulting the now deceased with knobkerries,” she said.
Msebele said Ncube admitted to have stolen the computer, but in another suburb, Cowdray Park.
The heavily injured suspect was later taken to Mpilo hospital where he succumbed to the injuries sustained in the mob attack.
In a related incident in the city, police said another man was stabbed on a thigh by an unknown attacker in a bar and succumbed to the injuries.
Daniel Nkomo, 29, of Old Pumula suburb, bled profusely after the attack, and was pronounced dead on arrival at Mpilo hospital.
“It is quiet disturbing that such young lives have been lost, incidents which could have been avoided. We appeal to anyone with information that may assist in the location of the accused person to report at any nearest police station,” Msebele said.
