Tauzeni wins Chinhoyi Breast Cancer marathon

CHINHOYI – MALONE Tauzeni finished far ahead of the pack at the Chinhoyi Breast Cancer Awareness marathon organised by the Mashonaland West Show Society.
The Chinhoyi Running Club decorated marathon runner, finished the race in 1 hour 22 minutes and 18 seconds.
Pityshades Kapfudza also known as Boss Yala crossed the finish line in 1 hour 53mins and 06 seconds to win the silver medal.
Russel Gatsi came third in 1 hours 59 minutes 10 seconds to scoop the bronze medal. The first three winners in the 21 km half marathon on Saturday were all from the Chinhoyi Running Club.
The race was held in Chinhoyi, in an effort to raise awareness about Breast cancer since October is breast cancer month.

The 21km race attracted 75 athletes. Some withdrew from the race due to the severe heat and humidity in the Mashonaland West provincial capital, with temperatures of around 31 degrees Celsius at the start of the marathon around 7 am in the morning.

Tauzeni and Gatsi have this year participated for the second time in Chinhoyi. In April, they took part in the Chinhoyi Seven Heroes’ Valour run, organized by the Chinhoyi University of Technology.

Tauzeni came first in the 10km category, while Gatsi was on ninth position in the 21km category.

After the Valour Run in April, Tauzeni went on to compete at the Econet Victoria Falls 21km Marathon, where he came in on 11th position.

Gatsi also challenged other Zimbabwean athletes at Old Hararians Marathon and completed the race on 18th position.

After the Chinhoyi Breast Cancer Awareness marathon, at Chinhoyi Showground, Gatsi said he was happy with the time he took to complete the race, saying he had improved from the previous marathons.
