A teacher at Amazon Secondary School in Insiza District, Matabeleland South Province, reportedly went berserk during a staff meeting on Tuesday and struck fellow teachers with a metal object including the headmaster, who is reportedly in a coma and in Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at one of Bulawayo’s biggest hospitals.

According to a senior educationist at the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education Head Office, identified the headmaster only as Ncube, adding that he was currently admitted at Mater Dei Hospital.

The schools development committee chair, M Muridzo, in a WhatsApp conversation seen by Nehanda Guardian, said Ncube’s wife, who is also a teacher at the same school, was nursing a fractured hand after she was also attacked by the same teacher, identified as V Ncube, who is the school’s deputy headmaster.

Two other teachers identified as Jamela and Maseko reportedly escaped unhurt. Muridzo said he was not aware of the reason behind the teacher’s violent behaviour. His chart is as below: “Good evening ladies and gentlemen I would like to announce this sad news that our teachers had a meeting today and there was a misunderstanding over issues not known to me, and the deputy head, Mr. V Ncube, went beserk and assaulted his colleagues using a metal object.

“The attacked teachers are Mr Ncube, the principal, Mrs Ncube, his wife and Mr. Jamela, Mr Maseko managed to escape unhurt. The principal is in critical condition is still unconscious and is in ICU at Mater Dei Hospital. Mrs. Ncube had a broken arm and a scar in the head and was bleeding through the nose and ears. Mr. Jamela has a swollen arm and a head injury with the ear bleeding. All the injured staff are now admitted at Mater Dei Hospital. Let’s pray for our staff, especially Mr. Ncube and family during this darkest phase. The principal is in great pain. I kindly ask both parents and students to remain calm for the matter is now in the hands of detectives. God will lead us through this storm. I thank you. SDC Chair, Mr. M Muridzo.”
