Shurugwi December 18, 2023 (New Ziana) -Castle Lager Premier Soccer League bound Telone Football Club dominated the Ruvimbo Funeral Central Region Soccer League awards ceremony held at the weekend with three players making it into the final 11.
Diminutive midfielder Blessing Sahondo was crowned player of the season after his stellar performance guided the WiFi Boys to the championship and with it a return to the Premier League.
The former FC Platinum and Chapungu player received US$350 from league sponsors Ruvimbo Funeral Assurance.
His teammate Blessing Sibanda was second runner up player of the season, while Prince Phiri was selected goalkeeper of the year, pocketing US$200 each.
Sibanda received a further $200 for being the top goalscorer after banging in 13 goals.
League runners-up Tongogara’s Simon Shangwa was crowned first runner-up with the lanky midfielder pocketing US$250.
Tongogara also provided two other players, Nelson Chikora and Marshal Mugaviri.
ZPC Munyati had Aubrey Nyandoro and Boniface Zuberu, while Chapungu’s Philip Chamunorwa also made it into the top 11.
Tanaka Zingwe of Midlands State University, Munashe Bamara of Dulibadzimu FC and Trymore Kawerere of FC Platinum Under 19 also convinced the selectors who included journalists and team coaches.
The league also awarded coach of the year Calvin Maposa of Tongogara and referee of the year Cuthbert Zigwati. Maposa received US$350, while Zigwati went away with US$250.
Sahondo promised to continue his fine form in the Premier Soccer League.
“I will not change the effort and standard of play I exhibited so that I help Telone win matches as well as win another award in the top league,” he said.
Maposa said he would continue working hard until Tongogara is promoted into the Premier League.
Ruvimbo Funeral team leader Perfect Dhafete said they would continue bankrolling Central Region Soccer League so that it becomes a serious feeder of both the PSL and national teams.
Coaches and players applauded Ruvimbo for bankrolling the league.
