GWERU – Castle Lager Premier Soccer League side Telone has opted to use council owned Ascot
    Stadium during the 2024 season.

The Gweru based outfit, which won the Ruvimbo Funeral Central Region Soccer League last season,
hopes that the stadium, which has failed to meet the grade in previous seasons is given the nod by
    Zifa’s First Instance Board.

Speaking on the sidelines of the Ruvimbo Funeral Central Region Soccer League end of the season
awards in Shurugwi, Telone manager Tapson Zivengwa said; “Our wish or desire is to use Ascot
Stadium. We are going to wait for the Premier Soccer League’s decision on the stadium.”

Zivengwa hopes that the stadium, which has been used for PSL matches in the past, would be given
    the greenlight.

“Remember Ascot Stadium was previously used by Whawha and we hope that it will be
homologated so that we use the same stadium,” he said.

Zivengwa said although they had not formally met Gweru City Council, the owners of the stadium on
the issue, they are banking on their good rapport with the local authority.

“We have not yet met council over the issue but we have always had a good working relationship
    with them,” he said.

Telone, he said, was currently drawing a plan of action so that they are successful this coming
    season.

The WiFi Boys, as Telone is affectionately known, will keep the bulk of the players that did duty in Division One.

“We will return most players we had in Division One because we feel our squad is competent
enough to withstand the heat in the PSL.

“They have brought us this far and we cannot just let them go. We want them to prove their quality
    in the PSL,” he said.

Zivengwa however said they hope to acquire tow or three players to bolster their squad.

Apart from Ascot Stadium, Gweru also has Bata Stadium, which was renovated to Premiership
standards by Sheasham FC, which was relegated in its maiden season last year.
