Harare, Â (New Ziana)-The 10 new non-constituency Senators that President Emmerson Mnangagwa recently recommended for appointment in terms of Constitutional Amendment Number 3 Act (CAA3) on Tuesday took their oaths of office at the Parliament Building in Mt Hampden.
Clerk of Parliament Kennedy Chokuda administered the oaths in the Senate Chamber.
President Mnangagwa recommended the ten individuals “for their professional skills and other competencies” in terms of the Zimbabwe Constitution.
The new Senators include Zanu PF Bulawayo provincial chairperson Jabulani Sibanda, former Mashonaland West Minister of State Mary Mliswa, former Manicaland Minister of State Nokuthula Matsikenyere, businessman Kudakwashe Tagwirei, Zanu PF Harare provincial chairperson Godwills Masimirembwa, Lucy Chitaga, retired Major-General Gibson Mashingaidze, former Minister Youth, Sport, Arts and Culture Makhosini Hlongwane, Brilliant Dube and Irene Mutumba.
Signed into law on July 7 this year, the CAA3 provides for the President to appoint 10 additional Senators, expanding the Senate from 80 to 90 members.
