GOBLINS have reportedly unleashed a reign of terror in Gwanda South District, with sexual
attacks forcing female teachers at Matulungundu Primary School to flee their dwellings amid
claims by villagers that the creatures belong to villagers from surrounding areas.
Sources close to the developments told this publication that the school closed earlier than the
official closing date as female teachers could not withstand the sexual assaults by the goblins.
“Goblins are terrorising both teachers and children at Matulungundu Primary School in
Gwanda South, under Chief Mathe’s area.
It is said when children enter the classroom they all fall asleep at once while female teachers
are sexually harassed at their cottages,” said the source.
A Grade Three female teacher, confirmed the incident.
“Personally, I have not been attacked yet, but I have other teachers complaining that they are
sexually abused by unseen creatures.
At times they wake up and realise that they would have had their under garments removed,”
said the teacher.
Parents have expressed concerns, saying this will affect the pupils pass rate since they
stopped learning before finishing their curriculum.
Contacted for comment, senior headman Nakollo Makurane, who is standing in for Chief
Mathe, confirmed the incident.
“As traditional leaders, we have received such a complaint that Matulungundu Primary
School female teachers are being sexually harassed by tokolotshis.
The community is making efforts to address this issue and assist the affected teachers.
We will use all possible means, be it traditional or religious to get rid of these tokolotshis,”
promised headman Makurane.
Another headman, Manama from Magaya Village also confirmed.
“I have heard that there are tokolotshis at the primary school but nothing has been done so far
to assist the affected teachers,” said headman Manama.
The goblins are believed to be owned by a prominent community member.
Gwanda District Schools Inspector, Sydney Sibanda, declined to comment saying he needed
official clearance first.
The Director of Communications and Advocacy in the Ministry of Primary and Secondary
Education, Taungana Ndoro, declined to discuss the incident, only saying:
