Three Ngundu school children die in tractor mishap

Ngundu (Masvingo Star- New Ziana)-Three school children died instantly while a forth one was critically injured recently when a tractor in whose trailer they were sitting in overturned at the 154 km peg along the Ngundu-Tanganda road in Masvingo province.

According to the police, the trailer of the tractor which was being driven by Tonderai Bandama from Masekesa Business Centre unhooked from the hitch.

The trailer hit one of the rear tractor wheels causing it overturn, killing three of the school children that were on board while the fourth was critically injured.

Bandama had picked the four school children on the way as they were travelling in the same direction with him.

Chiredzi police attended the scene and ferried the bodies of the deceased to Chiredzi General Hospital mortuary for postmortem while the injured was admitted at the same institution.

Masvingo police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa confirmed the incident and identified the deceased as Kudakwashe Pferedzai (15), Opportunity Lisenga (13) who learnt at Nyahanga Primary School and Delight Mlambo (16) who attended Mutandwe Secondary School.

In a separate incident, two brothers from Mwenezi in the same province are on the run after they killed their 66-year-old uncle on suspicions of witchcraft.

Emmanuel Homera and his brother attacked and killed Jeremiah Tavengwa after accusing him of keeping some traditional cloths and charms that they alleged were behind the deaths that were occurring in the family.

The two force-marched Tavengwa to Rutenga and after walking for about 15 km they started beating him all over the body using mopani sticks.

Tavengwa collapsed and the two fled the scene.

Asst Insp Dhehwa urged people to settle disputes through dialogue and desist from resorting to violence.

The deceased’s body was found by village head Gudo from Chitoro village under chief Neshuro and he reported to the police, who took it to Neshuro District Hospital.
