Harare,  – ZANU PF Chief Whip and Gutu South legislator Pupurai Togarepi has declared that the push for President Emmerson Mnangagwa to remain in office until 2030 is now “an unstoppable national voice,” saying communities across Masvingo — and the entire country — are firmly behind the resolution.

Addressing residents in Gutu South on Sunday during a rally, Togarepi said the people of Masvingo had spoken loudly and clearly, giving their representatives a direct mandate to champion the extension of President Mnangagwa’s leadership.

“We want to say to you, the people of Masvingo — and Gutu in particular — that you came out in your numbers and made your voices very clear. You demanded that we must go to the Conference and push for President Mnangagwa to remain in office until 2030,” he said.

“And let me emphasise this: this call did not come from you alone. Zimbabweans across the entire nation have expressed the same sentiment and stand firmly behind this vision.”
Togarepi, who leads ZANU PF MPs in Parliament, said his role was to ensure that party policies — including the Resolution Number One — are fully implemented. He noted that both ruling party legislators and some opposition MPs were expressing strong support for the proposal.

“Everyone knows that the party placed the responsibility in our hands when it declared that, as MPs, we must ensure the resolution is implemented,” he said. “We engage constantly — whether with fellow ZANU PF MPs or even with members of the opposition — and the truth is clear: this resolution is unstoppable. There is no meaningful opposition to Resolution Number One.”

He added that lawmakers were now more than ready to take the next steps, saying many in Parliament were eager to bring the resolution forward and give it effect.

“Every day, colleagues in Parliament ask when it will be brought forward, because they want to see it progress without delay. Nothing will stand in its way,” Togarepi said. “People across the country are benefitting from the progress made so far, and as their representatives, who are we to stand in the way of the will of the majority?”

While acknowledging that a small minority may disagree, Togarepi insisted the national mood overwhelmingly favours continuity.

“Yes, a few individuals may disagree with the resolution, but the overwhelming voice of the majority will always prevail,” he said. “In a democracy, it is the people’s collective will that guides us, and their message is crystal clear: they want continuity, stability, and the continued leadership of President Mnangagwa up to 2030.”

He said MPs would simply carry forward that mandate and ensure the wishes of citizens are respected.
