Harare, (New Ziana )— There is need for the national technical signals carrier, Transmedia Corporation, to accelerate efforts to achieve 100 percent radio and television coverage as well as complete the digital migration project.
Ministry of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services permanent secretary Nick Mangwana made the call on Monday in a speech read on his behalf by director for Media Services, George Chisoko, at a Corporate Governance Unit (CGU) Performance Training.
He said the performance of Transmedia is central to the government goal of leaving “no one and no place behind” in access to information.
“You are the sole signal carrier of the Republic. Your performance directly determines whether Vision 2030’s aspiration of universal access to information is realised,” he said.
Mangwana commended Transmedia for progress towards its 2026 performance targets for both radio and television coverage, supported by infrastructure funding unlocked under the National Development Strategy 2.
According to its first quarter 2026 report, Transmedia recorded positive trading performance driven by radio licence fees, transmission, infrastructure leasing and other revenue streams.
Mangwana said performance will be measured against five pillars, with universal coverage and digital sovereignty as the priority.
He said this includes 100 percent population coverage for radio and television, completion of the digital migration project, and maintenance of 99.9 percent transmitter uptime.
Mangwana said Transmedia is expected to complete the ZIMDIGITAL project for both radio and television, modernise equipment for community radio stations, share infrastructure with telecommunication operators, and ensure standby power for uptime above 99 percent.
Transmedia was also recognised as a critical partner in government’s community radio expansion, with equipment installations and technical support to continue.
“Performance contracts are not filed away, they are assessed by the people of Zimbabwe. Transmedia is not just a technical signal carrier — you are the carrier of the national narrative and the guarantor of universal access,” said Mangwana.
