THE Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services is not relenting in its endeavour to
bring quality education to Zimbabweans under friendly and healthy environment as
evidenced by state-of-the-art classroom blocks and teachers’ houses that the ZPCS
is constructing at its schools country wide.
Nehanda Guardian had an opportunity to tour some of the schools recently with
Deputy Commissioner General Granisias Musango as she commissioned a
teacher’s house at Bindura Prison Primary School (formerly Pednor Primary) and
two more at Mazowe Prison Primary School.
One of the classroom blocks at Mazowe Prison Primary School was then named
after former and long- serving ZPCS Commissioner General, the late Paradzai
Zimondi, who has been credited with promoting the education sector of the service.
DCG Musango said: “It is our goal to make sure that we provide quality education at
all our schools with learners learning under favourable conditions.
“Our aim is to have a school wherever we have our prison for the benefit of our
staff’s school-going children, and more importantly, the surrounding communities.”
Efforts, she said were in place to push for the construction of more teachers’ houses
so that they also enjoy their privacy.
“We are also pushing for school vehicles that will serve both the administration staff
(teachers) and pupils,” she said.
The service boasts 15 schools at present, 12 primary and three secondary schools.
