Underdogs dismiss log leaders

Share

CHINHOYI – HAPPY People appeared determined to win the match although the
majority thought their game against Northern Region Division One log leaders, Black
Mambas, was a walk over.
Both teams – Chinhoyi Stars and Black Mambas – went into the match with the intention
to win at all costs.
Chinhoyi Stars lost two matches – last Saturday’s match while hosting Chegutu Pirates
and their away midweek match versus Golden Eagles – seeing them drop into the
relegation zone.
The confident police officers travelled all the way to Chinhoyi Stadium with the intention
to collect maximum points as they are aiming for promotion.
The tightly-contested encounter during which Chinhoyi Stars beat Black Mambas one-
nil, left visitors’ coach, John Ncube, depressed while the coach for the home team,
Richard Chunga, was a relieved person as he recently survived a chop at the last
minute when his team bosses were baying for his blood.
Chinhoyi Stars’ goal was a turn and shoot from Marshal Mupuna, after receiving a free-
kick from Newton Tembo.
Mupuna’s goal is now content on YouTube and other social media platforms, as if it was
the goal of the tournament.
Black Mambas’ goalkeeper, Innocent Magwenzi, tried to stop Mupuna’s efforts but it
was too late to block the fast paced strike.
The results for this match did not bring changes to the log standings as Chinhoyi Stars
remained on third from last position and Black Mambas is still on the first position – five
points away from second-placed Harare City.
Chinhoyi Councilor Abigail Sauti applauded the Chinhoyi Stars players for the win,
which brings back hope to their supporters whose committee had since given up.
Black Mambas’ technical staff, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said most of the
teams they are playing against were being supported by other clubs who are also eying
championship.
