Dubai (New Ziana) – Vice President General Constantino Chiwenga (Rtd) on Sunday said Zimbabwe’s presence at Expo2020 -Dubai is in line with its development agenda which is premised on attracting increased foreign investment and harnessing local capacities.
He said this soon after arriving in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) where he will attend the Global Business Forum Africa (GBFA) which will run from October 13-14.
According to the event website, the GBFA facilitates international revenue flows by engaging leading decision-makers on the global investment scene.
Influential stakeholders participate in constructive dialogue at the highest level, focusing on key economic developments and investment opportunities emerging across the continent.
Gen Chiwenga (Rtd) is leading a delegation of five Cabinet Ministers including Finance and Economic Development Minister Professor Mthuli Ncube and Mines and Mining Development Minister Winston Chitando, several local companies and business organisations.
“We are coming here to participate, to see opportunities and also to expose and to showcase to the world the opportunities which are in Zimbabwe,” he said.
“More importantly post Covid-19 what we are aiming at going forward in developing our country, as His Excellency the President has always stated that we are the ones that are going to build our own country brick, upon brick, stone upon stone and when we say Zimbabwe is open for business what do we mean. “
Earlier, Expo2020 Dubai-Zimbabwe commissioner general ambassador Mary Mubi said VP Chiwenga’s visit to Dubai would give impetus to Zimbabwe’s participation at the global showcase.
“We belive that it (his attendance) will give additional impetus to what we are trying to do here, because obviously when we have a person of his stature it also highlights what we are trying to do in the pavilion and the importance with which we view the engagement agenda,” she said.
Meanwhile, apart from attending the GBFA, Vice President General Chiwenga (Rtd) will engage Zimbabweans living and working in the UAE, meet potential investors and tour several local companies including some involved in real estate, financial services and the manufacturing sectors.
One of the companies that is keen to engage the Vice President is DP World, a logistics company based in Dubai that specialises in cargo logistics, free trade zones and port terminal operations.
The Vice President will also tour the Zimbabwe pavilion at Expo2020-Dubai, then tour the UAE and China pavilions.
