Harare, (New Ziana) – The Zimbabwe government has reaffirmed its commitment to national football by offering significant financial incentives to the senior men’s national team, the Warriors, ahead of their crucial FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Benin and Nigeria.
In a statement on Wednesday, the Zimbabwe Football Association said President Emmerson Mnangagwa has pledged a winning bonus of US$150 000 per match for the players, technical staff, and support personnel.
If the Warriors secure victories in both their upcoming fixtures against Benin on Thursday and Nigeria next Tuesday, they could earn an additional US$300 000.
The financial commitment is over and above the US$1 million the government has already allocated the Warriors for participating in the upcoming CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Finals.
The government’s latest pledge underscores its dedication to the growth and success of Zimbabwean football teams as by providing direct financial support, authorities expect to boost morale within the national team as they prepare for the critical matches.
A strong performance in these qualifiers will be crucial in the Warriors campaign to secure a spot in the 2026 FIFA World Cup with the incentive from the government expected to motivate the squad as they take on formidable opponents in Benin and Nigeria.
The administration of President Mnangagwa has consistently expressed its support for Zimbabwean sports, particularly football, which is widely regarded as the most popular sport in the country, with the additional funding seen as part of broader efforts to enhance the team’s chances of qualifying for their first-ever World Cup.
As the Warriors gear up for their matches, authorities have urged Zimbabweans to rally behind the national team with fans encouraged to show their unwavering support, whether by attending games, watching from home, or backing the team on social media.
With the stakes high in the upcoming fixtures, the team is expected to give their all on the pitch, knowing that a strong performance could not only edge them closer to World Cup qualification but also secure significant financial rewards.
