Warriors set to receive US$500k AFCON prize money

Zimbabwe’s senior men’s national soccer team, the Warriors, will receive US$500,000 from the Confederation of African Football (CAF) for participating in the recently ended TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) finals in Morocco.

The Warriors exited the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations after finishing last in Group B with just one point, marking their sixth group-stage elimination since debuting at the continental showpiece in 2004.

Despite failing to progress beyond the group stage, the Warriors will still receive US$500,000, while the eventual winners, Senegal, will earn US$10 million.

Senegal were crowned champions of Africa for the second time in their history after edging hosts Morocco 1–0 in extra time.

In the last edition of the tournament, winners Côte d’Ivoire, took home US$7 million. Runners-up Nigeria, the Super Eagles, were awarded US$4 million.

In the group stage, Zimbabwe lost 2-1 to Egypt (December 22, 2025), drew 1-1 with Angola (December 26, 2025), and narrowly lost 3-2 to South Africa (December 29, 2025).

Zimbabwe now turns its attention to the next AFCON cycle and upcoming World Cup qualifiers. The technical team is expected to reflect on lessons learned from the Morocco campaign as preparations begin for future assignments.
