Water meters for Glendale households

THE Zimbabwe National Water Authority (ZINWA) will, with effect from March 9, 2023,
roll out installation of prepaid water meters in Glendale.
A total of 1 900 prepaid water meters are expected to be installed by the end of this month.
Majory Munyonga, ZINWA’s Corporate Communications and Marketing manager, told
Nehanda Guardian, that the ultimate goal of installing the prepaid meters was to ensure that
all clients in the town were on the prepaid water metering system.
“Prepaid waters meters are a modern and emerging trend in water resources management,
which affords clients more control of their water bills and water consumption patterns.
“By paying for their water before consumption, clients are able to control their budgets and
are saved from accruing debts,” said Munyonga.
It is also envisaged that prepaid water meters will help improve service delivery as resources
that are currently being used for purposes such as meter readings will now be deployed
towards other more deserving areas such as water production and breakdown repairs.
As at February 28, 2023, clients in Glendale owed ZINWA a total of $93,567,109.77
In Mashonaland Central Province, ZINWA has also installed prepaid water meters in
Mvurwi.
Mvurwi is one of the two towns where ZINWA piloted the concept of prepaid water meters.
Prepaid water meters will also help in the preservation of water in households.
