HARARE – A Harare woman has been arrested after the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) allegedly uncovered an operation in which sugar was repackaged into bags bearing counterfeit Tongaat Hulett branding.
The suspect, identified as Spiwe Mutandwa, was arrested following a raid on a house in Southlea Park, Harare, on Saturday evening.
Investigators allegedly recovered a truck carrying more than 3,600 kilograms of sugar packed in 2kg bags bearing counterfeit Tongaat Hulett labels.
The consignment amounted to at least 1,800 two-kilogram bags of sugar.
ZACC is believed to be investigating the circumstances surrounding the alleged repackaging and use of counterfeit branding.
This development comes amid growing concerns over the circulation of counterfeit and illicitly repackaged consumer products in the Zimbabwean market.
