Harare, December 31, 2023 (New Ziana) – A 19-year-old Nyanga woman and her four-month-old niece were killed after a house in which they were sheltering collapsed and crushed them following heavy rains received in the area on Friday, police have said.
Perpetual Muzengembuya and her niece, Lessly Maroka died at a timber company in Nyanga South.
Separately in Honde Valley, Mutasa district, 14-year-old Rufaro Nyamangodo died on Friday after allegedly being assaulted by her father, Amos Rutendo Nyamangodo for having an affair with their neighbour. The incident happened at Mangwanda Village, and Amos has since been arrested in connection with the murder.
Meanwhile, two sisters have been arrested by police after being found with crystal meth worth more than $5 million in Harare and Chitungwiza.
Acting on a tip off, detectives from CID drugs and narcotics arrested 40-year-old Brenda Jinjike, alias Mai Dee of Madokero in Harare and allegedly recovered 50 grams of crystal meth with a street value of ZWL$5 000 000 stashed in a satchel in the Mercedes Benz vehicle she was driving.
The detectives also arrested Mai Dee’s sister, Letina Jinjike (47), alias Mai Mobby at a house in Jekacheka Road, St Marys, Chitungwiza, and allegedly recovered three grammes of crystal meth worth ZWL$30 000.
Police are also appealing for information that might help them solve the suspected murder case of Tichaona Choto (40) of Hopley Zone 5 Farm, Waterfalls. Choto’s body was found with a wound on the ear and bruises all over the body on Friday.
