Harare (New Ziana) – Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption (ZACC) commissioner John Makamure faces an enquiry into his suitability to continue in his position over a number of misconduct allegations, a senior government official said on Monday.

Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services permanent secretary Nick Mangwana said Makamure’s fate would be determined by a tribunal.

“This afternoon at 1600, State House Harare. His Excellency, President @edmnangagwa will swear in the Tribunal to enquire into the question of removal from office of Commissioner John Makamure of @ZACConline who faces a number of allegations including of a criminal nature,” Mangwana tweeted.

Makamure is also the Zacc spokesperson.

According to the Zimbabwe Constitution a member of an independent commission may be removed from office for reasons including that the member concerned is unable to perform the functions of his or her office because of physical or mental incapacity.

The member may also be removed for gross incompetency, or if he or she has been guilty of gross misconduct.

The member may also lose their job if they become ineligible for appointment to the commission concerned.
