Zanu PF adopts key resolutions

Goromonzi (New Ziana) – The 18th Zanu PF annual National People’s Conference ended on Saturday with bold declarations that the party will be strengthened at all levels in order to further entrench its electoral dominance.

The two day conference, which drew over 5 000 delegates, had several issues including food security, macro-economic stability and inclusive growth and engagement and re-engagement high on its agenda.

It was themed, “Mechanise, Modernise and Grow the Economy Towards Vision 2030.”

Vice President General Constantino Chiwenga (Rtd) commended delegates for their invaluable input to the conference agenda.

“Our conference went on very well and I want to thank you for the discipline which you displayed and for the attention, you were quite attentive when all proceedings of this conference were going on,” he said.

“The President was listening very carefully at the proceedings and of course lastly the resolutions which came out from the various thematic committees and from the provinces.”

The ruling party’s national political commissar, Victor Matemadanda rallied supporters to begin preparations for the 2023 elections.

“Losing elections is not an option because we are at war since 1890 (when the white settlers first arrived in the country). Every election is just a process of defending and fighting against the people that invaded our land that way back.”

Matemadanda urged party leaders to work hard to recruit new members who will guarantee votes for Zanu PF in the next elections.

“We are going to grow the party membership from the current 2.5 million or so to five million,” he said.

“The flagship of the strategy is the recruitment, registration and retention of membership that is ideologically trained, developed and capable of voting for President Mnangagwa and the party in 2023. The realisation of this strategy depends on the requisite resources being made available prior to January 2020.”

He said the party was determined to attract members that supported it wholeheartedly.

“The difference between a member of the party and a cadre of the party is that a member looks for benefits from the party but a cadre can use his or her own resources to ensure that the revolution moves forward.

“These (people) that have attended this conference we want to graduate them to become party cadres not members. This revolution is not going to end it must go further.”

Meanwhile, the conference passed several resolutions that will guide the party and government over the next year.

Among other issues, delegates want the party to ensure that corruption is curtailed as it hinders economic development and that government policies are implemented fully for the benefit of the people.

“The party must assert its supremacy over government to ensure speedy implementation of the party’s election manifesto and resolutions.”

The party also tasked the President to continue his re-engagement efforts as this was crucial to Zimbabwe’s development.

On the social side, the conference asked government to ensure that adequate social safety nets were provided to vulnerable members of society, including clearing arrears owed to various schools by the Basic Education Assistance Module programme.

This, delegates said, would enable less privileged children to attend school without hindrance.

On the political front, all wings of the party re-affirmed their unwavering support for President Mnangagwa and nominated him to be the party’s candidate for the 2023 harmonised elections.

Party members were also tasked to crack down on indiscipline within the party.

“That the party should put in place mechanisms to guard against infiltration by counter revolutionary elements including G40,” one of the resolutions read, referring to expelled members of the party.
