Zanu PF, CCC lock horns in Gweru

Share

Gweru (New Ziana) – The ruling ZANU PF party and the opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) are due to lock horns shortly in another round of by-elections, this time in three wards in Gweru.

The ruling party trounced CCC in five out of six other local government by-elections in various parts of the country last weekend, with the result seen as an important pointer to the likely outcome of next year’s general elections.

The vacancies in the Gweru wards arose after the recall of sitting councillors by the opposition Movement for Democratic Change on account of changed political allegiance.

The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission set the by-elections for December 3, with the nomination court for all three wards sitting a month earlier on November 3.

But both parties have already started preparations for the polls, with the ruling party having invited applications from aspiring candidates.

Both parties are taking the by-elections seriously, considering a win as a good confidence booster ahead of the general elections.
