Marondera (New Ziana)-Zanu PF posted a landslide victory in House of Assembly seats in Mashonaland East in this year’s harmonised elections that were held peacefully in the province.
The revolutionary party won in 19 of the 23 constituencies, with the other four being grabbed by the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) party. The CCC won in Seke, Marondera Central, Ruwa and Goromonzi South.
In Seke, Willard Madzimbamuto of CCC scored a narrow victory after garnering 14 032 votes against Zanu PF’s Munyaradzi Kashambe’s 13 277 votes while in Ruwa – a newly created constituency in Mashonaland East – Thomas Muwonderi of CCC had 16 986 with Oswell Gwanzura of Zanu PF getting 9 373 votes.

The other seat which was lost by Zanu PF is Goromonzi South where it was a close call between the ruling party’s Tinashe Chikonye who polled 15 216 votes against Stephen Chagwiza of the CCC who romped to victory after garnering 16 312 votes.
However, Zanu PF romped to victory with landslide margins in all its strongholds like Maramba-Pfungwe where the party’s parliamentary candidate Tichaona Karumazondo polled a convincing 25 757 against Chiratidzo Chimunhu of CCC who had 1 448 votes.
The party also won convincingly by huge margins in Uzumba and Hwedza North constituencies. In Uzumba, Zanu PF’s Wiriranai Muchemwa romped to victory after garnering 24 588 votes as compared to Cosmas Konono of the CCC’s 1 977 votes.
In Hwedza North, 18 762 people voted for Zanu PF’s Itai Ndudzo to beat Mapfumo Katsaya of CCC who had 5 711 votes. The other constituencies where Zanu PF won resoundingly are Murehwa North, Murehwa West and Mutoko East.
As was expected, the ruling party’s provincial leaders sailed through and among them were chairman Daniel Garwe (Murehwa North), secretary for administration Felix Mhona (Chikomba East), secretary for information and publicity Tatenda Mavetera (Chikomba West) and youth secretaryin the Politburo Tinoda Machakaire (Hwedza South).
