Zanu PF condemns killings in Gaza

Harare (New Ziana) – The ruling Zanu PF party on Friday condemned the tragic murder of the mother of the ambassador of Palestine to Zimbabwe, Tamer Almassri by Israel in the city of Khan Younis in the Gaza Strip this week.

She becomes one of nearly 20 000 Palestinians, mainly women and children, massacred by the Israelis in an indiscriminate bombing campaign in Gaza since October.

The Israeli attacks, which have been widely condemned around the world, are in response to an October 7 raid into Israel by Hamas militants from Gaza in which 1 200 people were killed and hundreds abducted.

In a statement, Zanu PF secretary general, Obert Mpofu, said the ‘senseless act of genocidal violence’ was deeply saddening.
“ZANU PF strongly denounces the ongoing genocide and ethnic cleansing being committed by Israel in the Gaza Strip. The indiscriminate targeting of innocent civilians, including women, children, the hospitalized, the disabled and the elderly, is a gross violation of human rights and international law. The loss of innocent lives and the destruction of homes, infrastructure, and vital services is unacceptable,” Mpofu said.

“As a party that has always stood against oppression and injustice, we call for an immediate and final ceasefire in the region. The continued loss of innocent lives and the cycle of violence must be stopped immediately,” he said.

Mpofu said ZANU PF supports the call for a permanent solution to the Palestinian struggle, based on the principles of justice, equality, and self-determination.

“ZANU PF stands in solidarity with Palestine and the Palestinian people and calls for an immediate end to the violence, by Israel, and the realization of a Palestinian State free from Israeli apartheid occupation. Together, let us work towards a future where self-determination, peace, justice, and prosperity prevail for all the people of Palestine,” he said.

“We conclude by solemnly expressing our deepest condolences to the Ambassador of Palestine to Zimbabwe, his family and other families for the unbearable loss they continue to suffer during this most difficult period,” he said.

To date more than 1.9 million people in the Gaza Strip have been displaced, 16 700 people have been killed of which 75 percent are the elderly, women and children while in excess of 43 616 people have been seriously injured.

The Israeli apartheid state has dropped bombs equalling three atomic bombs on a place measuring 365km2, destroying more than 60 percent of houses in Gaza. Innocent civilians have been denied food, water, medicines, fuel and other necessities of life.
