Zanu PF expels Tsenengamu

Share

Harare, (New Ziana) – The Zanu PF Politburo on Wednesday expelled its former youth commissar, Godfrey Tsenengamu for continuing to disobey party orders.

Tsenengamu, together with former youth league deputy secretary Lewis Matutu, was last month suspended for one year for indiscipline, after
having issued controversial public statements outside party structures.

This was after the duo, for the second time and against an earlier party directive, held a press conference in which they accused some of the country’s leading businessmen of corruption, including involvement in illegal foreign currency trading, and gold smuggling.

Their actions, the duo claimed, were hugely responsible for driving the economy into its current difficulties, and called for urgent action to be taken against the businessmen.

Following the suspension, the youth leaders were directed to attend
ideological training at the Chitepo School of Ideology, an order Tsenengamu defied.

Zanu PF Secretary for Administration Obert Mpofu told journalists the
Politburo had discussed the importance of party members undergoing
ideological schooling to deal with cases of indiscipline and taken a
unanimous decision to expel Tsenengamu from the party.

“Some of the issues bringing the party into disrepute are hinged on the
indiscipline of party cadres, hence the need for the Chitepo School of
Ideology to take a leading role in redirecting party members,” he said.

“As such a unanimous resolution was passed today by the Politburo, that the former youth secretary for commissariat, Godfrey Tsenengamu be expelled with immediate effect due to his intransigence and continued disparaging of senior party leadership.”

Mpofu said discipline in the party was “sacrosanct and party
leadership will act on any misguided malcontents.”

This is the second time Tsenengamu has been expelled from Zanu PF on
disciplinary grounds, having previously been expelled from the party, then
under the leadership of late President Robert Mugabe.

He was re-admitted when President Emmerson Mnangagwa took over as the
First Secretary and President of the ruling party two year ago.

Mpofu said Matutu, who was suspended together with Tsenengamu, was
attending lecturers at the Chitepo School of Ideology as directed by
the party.

Meanwhile, Mpofu said the party had “activated its structures” as it
prepares for the next general elections.

The party is aiming to garner five million votes for its presidential
candidate, nearly double what President Mnangagwa got in the last
election.

Mpofu said the “five million campaign strategy” would enable the party
to review how far it had gone in fulfilling election promises made in
2018.

“Our party Zanu Pf has through government implemented various
developmental programmes but we continue to notice negative publicity
from unfriendly media,” he said.

He said the party continued “to show strength” through winning in the
majority of by-elections that have been held to date.

Addressing the politburo earlier, President Mnangagwa said fulfilling
the 2018 election promises would give the party a solid campaign platform
for the next general election set for 2023.
