Mutare (New Ziana) -The Zanu PF Manicaland is aiming to mobilise 800 000 voters as its contribution to the 5 million votes that the ruling party has targeted to garner in the 2023 elections to ensure a 65 percent victory, a senior official has said.

The ruling party has set a target to increase the number of its registered voters to 5 million to ensure a 65 percent victory in the 2023 elections.

Party provincial chairperson Mike Madiro was speaking on the sidelines of the ordinary session of the party`s Provincial Coordinating Committee (PCC) meeting after welcoming seven officials from three opposition political formations in the province who dumped their parties who joined Zanu PF.

Those who ditched their parties include Chikanga Senator Patrick Chitaka of the MDC Alliance, Zanu Ndonga leader Wilson Khumbula, senior MDC Alliance officials Advocate Simon Simango, Lovemore Chibvura, Nelson Dzingi and Samson Sithole as well as Crosswell Takawira Mugombi of the National Patriotic Front.

They were welcomed by senior Zanu PF officials including Patrick Chinamasa, party provincial chairperson Mike Madiro and Manicaland Provincial Affairs Minister Nokuthula Matsikinyeri.

The defectors pledged to vigorously mobilize support so that Zanu PF wins the 2023 harmonized elections resoundingly.

Madiro said the province had unanimously agreed to mobilize 800 000 voters for the 2023 harmonized elections.

“As Manicaland we have agreed that our target is 800 000 votes,” he said.

“As you know Manicaland is the most populous province. The forthcoming census will confirm this fact. This is a challenge to us as leaders to make sure we harness enough votes for the party,” he said.

He said as the party geared towards mobilizing for the 2023 elections, the leadership agreed to ensure that its organs such as youths, women and war veterans were given space to operate without interference.

Zanu PF national secretary for finance, Patrick Chinamasa urged members to embrace the new cadres who he urged to use their expertise to lure more supporters for Zanu PF.
