Harare, (New Ziana) – President Emmerson Mnangagwa has warned ruling ZANU (PF) members against burning the midnight oil to destroy the party.
“MuZANU PF hatina tsika yekufarira musangano wedu mangwanani, nemasikati, kana ava manheru towuponda (in Zanu PF we do not have the culture of supporting our party in the morning, and afternoon, when its dark we destroy it),” he said.
President Mnangagwa, who is the President and First Secretary of ZANU (PF) said this while addressing the 381st ordinary session of the ruling party Politburo in Harare on Wednesday.
“Doing so is an unfortunate and monumental mistake with dire consequences,” he added.
He said the role of the party leadership is to continue to assist the party and Government in developing practical solutions to deliver on the people’s concerns and needs.
“Let us stay the course to guide the nation to produce what we eat, help capacitate our small to medium enterprises, rebuild our manufacturing industry, brand our nation as a tourism destination of choice as well as add value to our God-given mineral resources,” he said, adding that he was happy with milestones realised in the agriculture sector, where the country is expecting a bumper harvest following good rains.
President Mnangagwa commended farmers and other stakeholders in the sector for surpassing planting targets for maize and other crop varieties.
He also commended Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development Minister Dr Anxious Masuka for his contribution and being voted the best Minister at the prestigious World Governments Summit recently held in Dubai, the United Arab Emmrates.
President Mnangagwa said ZANU (PF) remains preoccupied with achieving growth through upholding a people-centred development thrust and is proud of the milestones realised in infrastructure, agriculture, mining, tourism, human capital development and ICTs, among other sectors.
“Over and above this, defending our Party and promoting its ideals remains a moral imperative and a practical necessity. All structures of the Party must, therefore, be vigilant and stand firm in safeguarding our revolutionary foregrounding,” he said.
“We must expose and reject those with tendencies of political grandstanding, including their accessories. Village by village, ward by ward, district by district and province by province, all the leagues of the Party are urged to implement programs that help to raise the state of our national consciousness.”
He commend the ZANU (PF) commissariat and all party structures for the precision and diligent approach being employed in the ongoing cell verification with persistence, consistency, loyalty, patriotism and sacrifice defining members’ service to the party, true comradeship and heroism.
“Leveraging on the existing cordial relations with other revolutionary movements and governments within the region and beyond, ZANU (PF) will continue to step up the development of synergies to facilitate empowerment opportunities for the youths and women,” he said, noting that in its efforts to intensify cooperation for development, the government had signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Republic of South Africa and Rwanda in the area of Youth Affairs.
