Harare (New Ziana) – The ruling Zanu PF party on Friday joined the rest of the African continent in mourning the late first President of Independent Zambia Kenneth Kaunda.

Kaunda, affectionately known as KK, died aged 97 at a Lusaka hospital where he had been admitted earlier in the week.
Zanu PF spokesperson Simon Khaya Moyo described Kaunda as an African icon.

“The demise of the former President of Zambia Dr Kenneth Kaunda “KK” has sent shock-waves across the continent of Africa and the world at large. KK was a colossal, a true African icon, very principled, a Pan-Africanist, a fountain of wisdom and a man of courage, perseverance and peace, ” he said.

“He hosted and looked after all former liberation movements in Southern Africa until their respective countries achieved freedom and independence including Zimbabwe.

“All free and peace loving people in Southern Africa and beyond owe KK and the people of Zambia their deepest and everlasting gratitude.”

Khaya-Moyo said Kaunda has left behind a legacy of selfless service to mankind.

“He has departed leaving behind footprints of integrity, compassion and unity of purpose. One is inclined to say he has departed for higher responsibility,” he said.

Zambia has since declared 21 days of National mourning in honor of their founding farther.
