CHINHOYI – ZANU PF retained Hurungwe Central constituency after winning
parliamentary election with more than 2000 votes.
Richard Ziki, on a Zanu PF ticket, secured 13116 votes ahead of the CCC’s Christopher
Masochi who got 9475 votes.
The Free Zim Congress Joel Mazhambe, came third with 445 votes.
Empty promises have eroded the opposition’s popularity.
Ziki, who is also Zanu PF Hurungwe District Co-ordinating Committee Chairperson,
called on the people of the constituency to become a united community.
He said that the election results showed that since 1980, Zimbabweans have shown
faith in Zanu PF.
"Let us now work together, men and women, to build a Hurungwe that truly belongs to
all who live in it as proclaimed by our President who always says Nyika inovakwa
nevene vayo," said Ziki.
A CCC supporter who spoke on condition of anonymity said Zanu PF’s victory margin
has been reduced due to slow progress in tackling poverty.
Hurungwe Constituency former Member of Parliament, Doughty Ndiweni, stepped down
to allow a new candidate.
Ziki is a former Karoi Town Council chairperson, who is likely to face a tough task in his
new role of as a Member of Parliament, in the fulfilment of his promises to transform
Karoi Town Council to a municipality status before his term expires in 2028.
The Agricultural town has vast potential for growth due to surrounding fertile soils which
are being used for tobacco production. It has two water dams close to it besides the
Karoi dam, which is the town’s water source.
