Harare (New Ziana) – The ruling Zanu PF party on Saturday rolled out Presidential star rallies in support of its candidates contesting in the March 26 Parliamentary and Local Authority by elections.

President Emerson Mnangagwa launched the campaigns at Epworth Secondary School grounds in Epworth constituency where the Zanu PF candidate is Zalerah Makari.

The party, which is eying a clean sweep of the available seats, is contesting in 28 Parliamentary constituencies and over 100 Local Authority seats.

President Mnangagwa appealed to voters to choose wisely, shunning the corruption riddled opposition, which has failed to provide adequate service delivery in the 20 years it has been in charge of urban councils.

He touted several government programs such as Pfumvudza farming program, dam and road construction projects, all which were meant to improve the lives of the people.

He also highlighted the importance of the devolution program, which is being used to spearhead development throughout the county.

President Mnangagwa said this year, at least ZW$42.5 billion had been set aside for devolution programs.

But, he said while government was playing its part in the development agenda, attaining set targets was a shared responsibility.

“Development is a shared responsibility and every Zimbabwean has a role to play in the development of the country,” he said.

“We should build our country from our own internal resources and we are determined as Zimbabweans to build our country.”

President Mnangagwa said government was also in the process of regularising settlements such as Epworth.

He said Geospatial surveys of settlements such as Harare South, Epworth and Caledonia had been completed, setting the government on course to creating modern settlements replete with modern amenities.

“We are in the process of regularising settlements and giving out tittle deeds to owners. In the process of regularising, some people will have to be resettled, but no one will be moved without being provided alternative accommodation.

“So we will build apartments to accommodate those who will need to be resettled,” he said.

President Mnangagwa said the development trajectory that the Second Republic was following, would ensure even distribution of wealth and empowerment opportunities.

“We want to leave no one behind and no place behind,” he said.

“We must leave this country better than we found it.”

Turning to the campaign and election period, President Mnangagwa urged party supporters to shun violence.

He said the successes scored by the party and government since the onset of the Second Republic were enough to woo voters.

“I want all structures of the party, from cell to preach, peace, unity and love that is the DNA of Zanu PF, we say no to violence throughout,” he said.
