South Africa (New Ziana)-Ruling party, Zanu PF will win next week’s general elections resoundingly, and fairly, Information, Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister Monica Mutsvangwa said on Saturday.
The country is gearing for the August 23 vote in which a new president, and parliamentary and local government representatives will be elected.
Addressing the 6th BRICS media forum being held in South Africa, Mutsvangwa said Zimbabwe is going to conduct a peaceful election, which the ruling party will win, resoundingly.
“The BRICS block will be enthralled to know that your revolutionary soulmate ZANU PF will have a resounding victory in the coming harmonised election. Meanwhile, we are committed to ensuring a peaceful process that deepens peace and stability and primes Zimbabwe as an optimal destination for capital,” she said.
Zanu PF has assured observers to this year’s elections that Zimbabwe is going to hold the most peaceful elections.
The forum is running under the theme: BRICS and Africa: Strengthening Media Dialogue for a Shared and Unbiased Future.
Mutsvangwa said the theme offers a rethink to the- need to challenge dominance of the global media sector by a few conglomerates such as CNN, BBC and Reuters.
“It re-emphasizes the very existence of BRICS as an emerging multilateral alternative that seeks to humanize politics and give incentive to reciprocal multilateralism.
“To achieve this, our nations must know each other, and the media has a franchising effect to that cause. The media helps to curate the interwoven connections of our cultures, politics and economies. In the SADC, we share a political soul that shapes the values of economic integration, BRICS forms that benchmark of a shared economic future,” said Mutsvangwa.
She said the media should drive the BRICS agenda.
“It will be recalled that, the third world is designated as “developing” specifically on account of the oppressive global order that has inhibited genuine economic independence. Such stereotypes and framings are media discursive outputs. Inversely, they invite a new telling of our story and re-imagination of the Global-South and the media is the relevant driver to that agenda,” she said.
