Bulawayo (New Ziana) – The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) branch in Bulawayo province said on Tuesday it had prepared fully for the country’s general elections mid-week and expects the poll to run without any glitches.

All polling stations in and around the provincial capital, Bulawayo – the country’s second biggest city – had fully set-up voting facilities, with polling staff, agents and police already on site.

Wednesday’s vote is for president, parliament and local government combined.

The electoral body said all election material, especially ballot papers, were all on voting sites in readiness for the election.

ZEC deputy provincial elections officer for Bulawayo, Pretty Gadzikwa said all 434 polling stations in the province were ready for election day.

“Preparations are going well, and we have 434 polling stations across the province,” she said.

A total of 6 623 511 are registered to vote, and the government declared Wednesday a public holiday to encourage people to take part in the poll.

At several polling stations in the city, party polling agents were seen on Tuesday taking down campaign posters in nearby areas as required by law.
