Gwanda (New Ziana) – The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) kicked off a mobile voter registration exercise in Matabeleland South on Tuesday, as preparations for next year’s general elections gather pace.

Matabeleland South provincial elections officer, Robson Moyo said registration teams will be deployed at public facilities such as schools and churches for the exercise, which will run until the end of the month.

Ahead of the kick off of the campaign, ZEC released a schedule of dates and places it will visit, and for how long.

The elections body has launched a voter registration exercise countrywide in preparation for the 2023 general elections, expected by mid-year.

“The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission will first deploy a team to create awareness, before they arrive at a certain village so that the villagers will be aware of their arrival,” Moyo said.

“The registration data will be used in (the) delimitation exercise to redraw constituency boundaries which will consider the total number of registered voters in a particular area.”
Countrywide, ZEC also has 73 permanent voter registration offices.
