Harare, (New Ziana) –In a significant step toward enhancing bilateral relations and fostering economic growth, Zimbabwe and the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on tourism.
The agreement, which Cabinet approved on Tuesday, marks a new chapter in the partnership between the two countries, aiming to strengthen mutual understanding and collaboration in the tourism sector. Addressing the media after the Cabinet meeting, Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister Jenfan Muswere said the MoU had the potential to deepen friendly relations and create a robust framework for tourism development.
“The agreement outlines several key objectives, including strengthening friendly relations and mutual understanding between Zimbabwe and Algeria, establishing a structured framework for the development and promotion of tourism, enhancing cooperation in the exchange of expertise and research, and promoting joint tourism initiatives and investments,” he said.
Muswere said by leveraging their unique strengths, both countries aim to attract international tourists, boost revenue, and create employment opportunities within the tourism sector. Zimbabwe, renowned for its breath-taking landscapes, rich cultural heritage, and iconic attractions such as the Victoria Falls and the Great Zimbabwe Ruins, stands to benefit significantly from the partnership.
Algeria, with its diverse offerings—from the Sahara Desert to its Mediterranean coastline and ancient Roman ruins, offers equally compelling tourism opportunities.
The agreement paves the way for collaborative marketing campaigns, joint tourism packages, and the sharing of technological advancements in the industry.
The signing of the MoU aligns with the broader government strategy to revitalize the tourism sector, which has been identified as a key driver of economic recovery and growth.
