Harare (New Ziana)- Zimbabwe on Tuesday recorded 49 new cases of Covid-19 and one death, raising fears that a second wave of the pandemic is currently being experienced in the country.

In a daily update, the Ministry of Health and Child Care said 20 of the new cases were locally transmitted while 29 were recorded among citizens who recently returned from neighboring South Africa.

The new cases bring the number of active Covid-19 cases up to 315.

“As of 10 November 2020, Zimbabwe has now recorded 8 610 cases, 8 040 recoveries and 255 deaths,” the Ministry said.

At its weekly meeting last week, Cabinet resolved that an outreach exercise be undertaken by the Inter-Ministerial Taskforce to all provinces to remind and raise awareness among the citizenry and local leadership of the threat of COVID-19 spike during the impending rainy season.

Zimbabweans have generally become complacent and no longer adhere to the health guidelines of wearing face masks, keeping appropriate distance and had sanitisng.

Many countries in Europe are experiencing a resurgence of the pandemic and are reintroducing restrictive measures which they had lifted following a lull in infections.
