Zim not moved by Western hostility – Acting President Mohadi

Harare – Acting President Kembo Mohadi said on Thursday Zimbabwe is not moved by the hostility that it is getting from some Western countries as most of it is historical.

Speaking to journalists after meeting outgoing United Nations (UN)
resident coordinator, Bishow Parajuli, Acting President Mohadi said it was unfortunate that some Western countries now believed their own lies about Zimbabwe.

“There are members of the UN, especially those from the West, that have demonised us, and they have ended up believing what they are saying. The lies they are saying about Zimbabwe, they ended up believing them, which is not true,” he said.

He added: “But those that come here to Zimbabwe and witness things for themselves, they found that Zimbabwe is a different country altogether.”

Acting President Mohadi said despite the lack of support from Western powers, Zimbabwe would rise again.

“We are a resilient nation, we will find our way. We will chart our
way, and we will get there, with or without them. So they will join the bandwagon later on,” he said.

Acting President Mohadi was reacting to criticism by the European Union and other Western embassies of the way Zimbabwean police handled opposition demonstrators recently.

He commended the good relations between Zimbabwe and the UN, which
rendered immense support to the country when it was struck by the
Cyclone Idai disaster.

“Just recently we had a disaster, Cyclone Idai which devastated our
province of Manicaland and a district in Masvingo. They went out of
their way to assist us. Even the high level officials of the United
Nations came here to assess the damage that the cyclone caused. And also to go and galvanise support and it came,” he said.

“Every year we get something like half a billion dollars from UN. About US$442 million came last year to provide us support for projects in health, water, education and also food security,” he said. – New Ziana
