Zim records 115 new Covid-19 cases

Harare, (New Ziana) – Cases of local transmission of Covid-19 have continued to surge in the country, with 115 new ones recorded on Thursday, health authorities said.

However, no deaths were reported in all the 10 provinces, even though the national Covid-19 case fatality rate has now increased to 2.8 percent.

Out of the 115 new cases, Bulawayo recorded (63) to bring its cumulative total to 2 157 cases, while Harare has 3 358 cases.

In a daily Covid-19 update, the Ministry of Health and Child Care said the country had now recorded 9 623 cases, 8 397 recoveries and 274 deaths.

It recorded 61 new recoveries, bringing the national recovery rate to 87.3 percent, but active cases went up to 952.

“Harare and Bulawayo have the highest number of cases per capita followed by Matabeleland South. Manicaland, Mashonaland West, Bulawayo and Harare have case fatality ratios above the national average,” the Ministry said.

On Wednesday, the country recorded 110 new cases, the first time in months the country had recorded three digit infection figures amid fears of a second wave of infections.

Covid-19 has affected more males (55.15 percent), compared to females (44.85 percent). Most of the cases are in the 20 to 40 year age groups (57 percent).

On the other hand, most deaths are between the 40 to 80 year age group (68 percent). There are more deaths from males in the older age group.
