Harare, (New Ziana) – Zimbabwe on Friday recorded 14 new Covid-19 cases to take the tally of confirmed cases to 174, the Ministry of Health and Child Care said.

This is the fourth day in the past week that the country has registered double digit growth in the number of new infections, which are mainly confined to quarantine centres.

The Ministry of Health and Child Care said half of the 14 cases were people in quarantine centres who arrived from Botswana, South Africa and the United Kingdom.

The other seven were due to local transmission.

To date the total number of confirmed cases is 174, recovered 29, active cases 141 and four deaths since the outset of the outbreak on 20 March, 2020,” the Ministry said.

To date, the country has conducted 44 635 tests, with experts urging government to intensify testing even among the general populace and not just focusing on targeted groups.

Zimbabwe is still under a Level Two lockdown introduced as part of measures aimed at curtailing spread of the virus.

President Emmerson Mnangagwa is soon expected to present a review of the situation.
