    Zim records 33 Covid-19 deaths

    Harare(New Ziana)-At least 33 Zimbabweans succumbed to Covid-19 on Monday, bringing the cumulative deaths to 1 911 since the onset of the pandemic in March 2020.

    During the same period, about 1 540 new Covid-19 infections were recorded, pushing the seven-day average for new cases up to 1247.

    In a statement, the Ministry of Health and Child Care said most of the new infections were recorded in Covid-19 hotspots.

    “1 540 new cases (all local) and 33 deaths reported today (7 day rolling average for new cases rises to 1 247 today (Monday) from 1147 yesterday (Sunday).

    “Kariba (35), Karoi (42), Chinhoyi (38), Guruve (44), Marondera (75), Goromonzi (44), Chiredzi (40), Masvingo (27), Northern suburbs (53), Nkulumane (20) , Emakhandeni (31) (Bulawayo), Harare (268) and Kwekwe (24) (Midlands),” said the Ministry of Health and Child Care in its daily update.

    The Ministry noted that there are currently 12 697 active Covid-19 cases.

    As of 5 July, 2021, Zimbabwe had recorded 56 014 cases including 1 911 deaths.

    Zimbabwe is under a two-week Level 4 lockdown as government battles a third wave of Covid-19 infections.

    Government has attributed the surge in new Covid-19 infections to complacency.
