Harare (New Ziana) – Zimbabwe on Thursday announced eight new cases of Coronavirus, the highest number of confirmed cases recorded in a day since the country recorded its first case in March.

This brings the number of cases in the Southern African nation to 40 including five recoveries and four deaths.

In its daily update, the Ministry of Health and Child Care said the eight new cases included two that were tested on April 28 but were yet to be reported.

“The Ministry would like to report that two PCR tests done in Bulawayo on the 28th of April were positive for Covid-19. Today (Wednesday) a total of 355 tests were done giving a total of 7 642 screening and diagnostic tests done to date,” it said.

“All PCR tests done in Bulawayo today (Wednesday) were negative for Covid-19. Of the PCR tests done in Harare today six were positive for Covid-19. Therefore to date Zimbabwe has 40 confirmed cases including five recoveries and four deaths.”

The Ministry said case 33 was a 70 year old male resident of Bulawayo who returned from the United Kingdom in March.

“He was tested for Covid-19 as a contact to case 14, currently he is stable with mild disease,” the Ministry said.

“Case 34 is a male resident of Bulawayo with no recent history of travel. He was tested for Covid-19 as a contact of case 33. Currently he is also stable with mild disease. Both cases are recovering under self-isolation.”
