Harare, (New Ziana) – Zimbabwe on Saturday recorded three new Covid-19 cases, taking its tally of confirmed infections to 31, the Ministry of Health and Child Care has said.

In its April 25 update, the health ministry said 380 samples had been screened for coronavirus and three of them were positive.

While the circumstances under which the people were infected are yet to be disclosed, the ministry said two of the cases were due to local transmission while one was imported.

“Therefore to date, Zimbabwe now has 31 confirmed cases, including two recoveries and four deaths,” the ministry said.

Two of the new cases were recorded in Mashonaland West province while one was in Harare.

Of the 31 confirmed cases, Harare tops all the country’s provinces with 13 infections, followed by Bulawayo with 10, Mashonaland East and West with four and three respectively, while Matabeleland North has one.

The other five provinces remain free of the virus so far.

To date, Zimbabwe, which is currently under a nationwide lockdown aimed at curtailing spread of the virus, has conducted 6 067 Covid-19 tests.

The corona virus has to date killed nearly 188 000 people worldwide, with confirmed infection cases nearing three million.
