Zim records zero Covid-19 deaths in one week

Harare, (New Ziana) – Zimbabwe has in the past six days not recorded any deaths related to Covid-19 while the number of new cases has slowed down to average less than 30 in the past week.

The country last reported 2 deaths on September 11 and in that week, only 153 new cases have been recorded.

“The seven day rolling average for new cases further goes up to 26 from 24 yesterday,” the Ministry of Health and Child Care said.

As at September 17, the country had recorded 7 633 cases since end of March, 5 841 recoveries and 224 deaths.

And with the decline in infections, government has further relaxed the locked down measures that were aimed at limiting movement to curtail spread of the pandemic, with the economy now largely opened up.

This week, the government announced that intercity travel was once again not permitted while the country’s borders would be opened to outsiders at the beginning of next month, who would be allowed on strict Cocid-19 conditions.

The country remains under a level 2 lockdown, restricting unnecessary movement of citizens while schools remain closed.
