Harare, (New Ziana) – Zimbabwe suffered a trade deficit of US$42.6 million for the month of September as the country
imported more than it sold outside the country, the country’s statistics agency said on Monday.

Data released by the Zimbabwe National Statistics Agency (Zimstat) shows that the country exported goods worth US$398.8 million during the period, as opposed to imports which stood at US$441.4 million.

Imports were up nine percent compared to August while exports increased by 2.4 percent from US$389.3 million the previous month.

The value of total exports in September 2020 was US$398.8 million.

This was a slight increase of 2.4 percent from the value of total exports in August 2020, which was about US$389.3 million.

“While a positive trade balance was maintained for the four months in a row at the end of 2019, the trade balance has been negative from February to September 2020,” Zimstat said.

Minerals and tobacco are top among Zimbabwe’s major exports, while raw materials and equipment, electricity and fuel rank high on imports.
